When considering any major dental work (crowns, veneers, bridgework or implants) which can all affect the way in which your teeth bite together, it is vital to treat the mouth as a whole and not just the teeth.

Your teeth are connected to your jaws, which are in turn connected, via the Temporo Mandibular Joint (jaw joint or TMJ), by muscles and ligaments. The position of your bite, the way in which each of your teeth contact each opposing tooth, is of paramount importance to the health of your TMJ and your jaw muscles. An incorrectly set bite, can cause headaches, muscle tension, stress and also neck & back problems.

Whenever I undertake any major dental work, I always consider the bite, TMJ and muscles first to make sure my dentistry will allow them to all work together in harmony. We use our
BioPAK system to do this. This also allows us to get the bite set in the optimal position before we start any dentistry.
